Colds, big flu, bronchiolitis... Autumn viral diseases have reappeared, especially in children. In some cases, these diseases can be painful for the child who is forced to stay in bed for a few days. Vigilance is particularly important in view of the fact that, for the third year in a row, the autumn season is taking place in a context marked by Covid-19. Epidemiology specialists do not rule out the possibility of a new epidemic wave with an increased risk of co-infection with influenza and Covid-19.
Autumn diseases such as influenza, colds and bronchiolitis have reappeared, especially in younger people. This was highlighted by Laila Tami, a pediatrician, in a statement given to Le Matin. He added that children had been consulting for these diseases since the beginning of September, when students had returned to school. He added that this phenomenon had always been observed because classroom classes were synonymous with gatherings, which encouraged the transmission of viruses.
The specialist revealed another factor favouring the transmission of autumn viruses. This is the drop in temperatures. "Certainly, our days are sunny, but we must not forget that the temperature drops during the nights, which poses a risk for children who do not cover themselves properly," she explained. In this respect, Dr Tami would like to recall that purely scientifically, viruses attack us during the cold season, i.e. when the immune system is weakened and, as a result, the human body becomes more exposed to diseases.
It should be noted that for the third year in a row, the autumn season comes in a context marked by Covid-19, which increases the risk of developing fairly serious cases of the disease. The number of cases recorded per day is constantly decreasing, but the virus is still circulating among us. Worse still, epidemiologists do not rule out the possibility of a new epidemic wave. Vigilance is therefore always required.
